A Museum for the Moving Image in Paris
GSD M Arch I Thesis Spring 2012 | Advisor: Eric Howeler
Cinema is on the retreat! A once collective and social experience has now become personalized and solitary. We are able to view moving images on portable devices or in homes where a screen is available to perform at our demand. The environments in which we view most moving pictures has become inconsequential, unspecific, unexceptional. Spaces once created for these collective events in the city are diminishing and being pushed aside. How can these spaces be reintroduced into the city? How can the enchantment once present through a shared, “disembodied,” and ephemeral experience in a motion picture screening be brought to new audiences? How can the city itself become a filmic experience?
